Joseph has an extensive history of working in the field of substance use disorder treatment – both in IOP and residential treatment. Since 1993, Joseph has been in the field working in a behavior modification center in California. In this capacity, Joseph received a TCW certification – Therapeutic Communities of America. In addition, Joseph has obtained his CADC II certification from the Certification Board of Alcohol and Drug Counselors.
Joseph chose the field of addiction treatment because he enjoys watching people turn their lives around, restore the relationship between the client and his/her family and loved ones, and fully break the cycle of addiction. Joseph firmly adheres to the evidence base that shows addiction is a disease that not only affects the individual, but the entire family and system. Joseph has also worked with individuals presenting with co-occurring disorders and has found this dynamic (e.g., depression and alcohol abuse, anxiety and cocaine abuse, anger and cannabis abuse, etc.) is becoming more commonplace than ever before.
Joseph loves the fellowship of the clean and sober community. He enjoys attending NA conventions, playing clean and sober softball with CSSA, and stays active in leading IOP groups, conducting one-on-one sessions, working with their loved ones and family members, and helping people understand the link of co-occurring disorders and how to break those chains. When not engaged in this work, Joseph spends time with his family, especially is grandchildren.
